LAHORE: Higher Education Secretary Abdullah Khan Sumbal said on Wednesday that research in schools and colleges should be promoted. He said instead of rote learning, teachers should assign research projects to students and supervise them. He said research should be made a benchmark for promotion of college teachers. Sumbal said special training should also be arranged for every head of the department in human resource management. He said teachers should raise awareness among students about educational problems. He was presiding over a consultative meeting of stakeholders to discuss proposals and steps needed to enhance standards of public colleges at Government Postgraduate Islamia College for Women, Cooper Road. The meeting decided that funds and SNE posts would be given to government colleges on the basis of enrollment. The meeting was informed that the second refresher course for professional training of college teachers would start at the University of Education at the end of December. Sumbal said the government would formulate a policy to further improve education standards.
