What are your children watching? (II)

Letter October 28, 2014
I suggest that every television channel should allocate a suitable time slot dedicated for children programmes

KARACHI: Pakistani media — print or electronic — is successfully providing its readers and viewers with all aspects of news, information and entertainment. The content it provides is targeted towards the youth, men, women and the elderly. But, unfortunately, programming for children seems to be a totally neglected area.

Until the recent past, there used to be some programmes for children, such as animated series, game shows, musicals and infotainment programmes. Children not only enjoyed such programmes, but also gained useful information through them.

Children, these days, are able to watch and listen to mature content in the form of dramas and even political shows. I suggest that every television channel should allocate a suitable time slot dedicated for children programmes. In these programmes, children from different schools and from different income levels should be invited to participate. They should include storytelling, quizzes, poetry recitation, short plays, religious segments and games.
