BARA:

A government-run primary school for girls was blown up by militants in a village of Bara, Khyber Agency late Sunday night.

A political administration official said on Monday that Government Girls Primary School of Hakim Khan Kallay in Akakhel area of Bara was razed to the ground after explosives planted by militants in various portions of the school went off. The explosives were triggered by a remote control, destroying almost all the rooms along with the boundary wall.

The official added all residents of the village have abandoned their homes in the wake of the ongoing military operation and no casualties were reported in the incident.

He said no one has yet claimed responsibility for the attack, but believed a banned militant outfit was behind the bombing. The government has already initiated military operation Khyber-1 against militants of the region, especially those affiliated to the proscribed Lashkar-e-Islam headed by Mangal Bagh.
