Journalists and civil society activists on Sunday held a protest outside the National Press Club against the recent killing of eight labourers in Hub, Balochistan.

Eight labourers, who hailed from Muzaffargarh and Rahim Yar Khan, were abducted from a poultry farm in Sakran area near the industrial town of Hub in the wee hours of October 19. They were found dead in a mountainous area the same day.

Another labou¬rer was seriously injured by the attackers. The protesters demanded formation of a judicial commission to investigate the killings and financial assistance for the bereaved families. They demanded the federal and provincial governments to provide protection to labourers from Punjab and Sindh working in Balochistan.

Seraiki National Party President Abdul Majeed Kanju said no representative of the federal or provincial governments had visited the bereaved families to express solidarity.

Journalist and activist Rana Abrar Khalid said the federal and provincial governments were responsible for the incident. He said major political parties including the PML-N, PPP and PTI were silent on the tragedy.
