No to devolution: CPSP members vow not to let it fail

Members claim a group with vested interests wants to take over the institution.

Press Release October 23, 2014

KARACHI:

Fellows and members of the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) have taken notice of the activities of a group of people with vested interests who want to destroy the institution by moving and passing a bill in the provincial assembly for a so-called ‘Sindh CPSP’.

A meeting held at the CPSP head office in Karachi, attended by a large number of its fellows and members, passed a unanimous resolution to resist the provincial government’s attempts to devolve the institution.

The members claimed it had taken the CPSP 52 years to make a name for itself in the international community. Members of the institute are recognised and respected by sister colleges around the world and are serving in dozens of countries.

The resolution, put forward by Dr Syed Tipu Sultan and seconded by Dr Shereen Zulfiqar Bhutta, said that members of the CPSP were looking after the health of the nation and were also imparting education to undergraduate and postgraduate students. Making a parallel CPSP in Sindh or attempts to take over the institution in the name of Sindh CPSP was condemnable and would not be accepted at any cost.

The CPSP Council and all FCPS and MCPS are extremely concerned about the illegal activity and reserve the right to take any action to save the integrity of the institution, they maintained. The council will take any and all steps to save the future of all FCPS and MCPS.
