LAHORE:

Diwali is the celebration of victory of truth over oppression, Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) chairman Siddiqul Farooq said on Thursday. He was speaking at a function to celebrate the festivity at Krishna Mandir on Ravi Road.

Diwali, the festival of lights, is observed on the 14th day of Asvina. Farooq said rights of minorities were protected in Pakistan.

He said the ETPB had been taking care of worship places of minorities. He said the board facilitated visits by pilgrims from other countries.

“We are grateful to the ETPB for arranging the event. We are satisfied with the arrangements, particularly security measures,” Hindu Sudhar Sabha president Amarnath Randhawa told The Express Tribune.

“Diwali gives us the message of love, peace and harmony. It calls upon us to set aside differences and work together to make Pakistan a peaceful country,” Amarnath Randhawa said.

“Diwali is the celebration of peace. The day calls upon us to stand against extremism,” said Munawar Chand, a Hindu scholar in charge of Krishna Mandir.
