UPPER DIR:

The noticeable absence of women employees at the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) and passport offices in Upper Dir is a problem for the women of the district.

A 45-year-old woman, Bibi Jabin Taj, who had come to the Nadra office to get her identity (ID) card renewed, told The Express Tribune in Upper Dir getting a passport or an ID is a difficult job without female staff in the offices.

“There are no women working in either of the offices,” said Taj. Senior Nadra official Najam said staffers at the Nadra office also feel uncomfortable when they ask veiled women to get their photographs taken or give their thumb impressions.

According to the local Nadra assistant director, Shah Fahad, they have specified Friday as the day when women can visit the office. Fahad said the step has been taken for the convenience of women in the area.

“If local women are not willing to work for Nadra, the office can hire women from other stations,” said MNA Sahibzada Tariqullah.
