The bane of floods

Letter October 22, 2014
Government must take immediate and necessary precautionary measures to deal with the impact of this natural calamity.

RAWALPINDI: Every year, we face the same situation where thousands of innocent lives suffer because of floods and mismanagement on the part of the authorities. People have to give up almost everything they own because the government is not able to tackle the situation in an effective manner. The poor victims don’t get enough funds to recover their losses.

Recently, in the nearby village of Hazari, thousands of people were displaced due to the flood. Around 78 per cent of our economy depends solely upon the agriculture sector. In the past few years, a large number of crops have been destroyed and that has derailed our economy. So, before things get worse and we suffer more from the consequences of floods, the government must take immediate and necessary precautionary measures to deal with the impact of this natural calamity.
