LAHORE:

Judge Ayub Khan Marth of an anti-terrorism court on Tuesday directed the remaining prosecution witnesses in a case against Shahid alias Gullu Butt to record their statements by October 23.

The statements of six people out of 12 have been recorded to date. The court had earlier recorded the statements of Head Constable Muhammad Boota and Constable Imran. The witnesses told the court that Butt had vandalised private property in the June 17 Model Town violence.  The court had previously indicted him on the charges of vandalism and attacking policemen.

Police had accused Butt of vandalising vehicles outside the Minhaj Secretariat in a challan but had failed to determine who had directed him to do so.

Video footage showing Gullu Butt vandalising private property was also mentioned in the challan. The video had also been used by police to identify him.

Police had arrested Butt after he had vandalised scores of vehicles outside the Minhaj Secretariat. Footage showed him hitting at several vehicles in the presence of a number of police officials.

Some of them were later seen commending Gullu Butt for his ‘performance.’ Lahore High Court had previously granted him bail on furnishing Rs200,000 bonds.

An FIR had been registered against 21 people on August 28 including Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on the complaint of the Minhajul Quran.

Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act was also included in the complaint against them.
