HYDERABAD:

Former Sindh assembly deputy speaker Syed Zafar Ali Shah has challenged the appointment of the vice-chancellor (VC) of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University, Nawabshah.

In a plea admitted to the Sindh High Court’s Hyderabad circuit bench on Tuesday, Shah requested the removal of VC Arshad Saleem Arain claiming that he was not qualified for the position. Shah said that Arain was appointed VC in January 2011 in violation of rules and regulations.

He said that Arain lacked the requisite experience and qualifications for the post.

“Arain was only a post-graduate when he became VC… you need at least a PhD degree to qualify for the position,” Shah said.

He said Arain was the admissions comptroller when he became VC.

“He issued a notification making himself dean of all teaching faculties in February 2012,” he said.

The court issued notices to the respondents.
