The DCO said an elaborate security plan must be drawn up during Muharram

Sheikhupura District Coordination Officer (DCO) Rashid Kamal Rehman on Tuesday announced a public holiday on October 23 in Narang Mandi Muridke, on account of by-polls in PP-162. 


The by-election was announced after the demise of MPA Khurram Gulfam of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). Usman Nisar Pannu will be contesting the by-polls as an independent candidate. He will run against from Hassan Riaz of the Pakistan Muslim League-N.

The by-election was earlier to be held on September 26 but was rescheduled by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) due to floods. PP-162 has 123 polling stations.

The DCO said an elaborate security plan must be drawn up during Muharram.

He was addressing a meeting.

Rehman said as many as 717 majalis and 272 processions would be held in Muharram. The DCO said encroachments along procession routes should be removed and CCTV cameras should be installed.

The DPO told the meeting that 36 people had been prohibited from addressing public during Muharram.
