PESHAWAR: At least, 5,000 out of 20,000 schoolteachers belonging to the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) are likely to be promoted, revealed officials in the Ministry of States and Frontier Regions (SAFRON).

The process is likely to take place in two phases and 5,000 teachers will be upgraded in the first phase whereas the remaining 15,000 will be upgraded in the next phase.

SAFRON officials have asked the FATA Secretariat to submit a report to facilitate the process.

According to official sources, SAFRON had previously decided not to promote over 20,000 schoolteachers from Fata due to failures in meeting legal formalities.

However, the department is now preparing a new course of action to deal with cases of promoting school teachers. In the first phase, teachers will be promoted on sanctioned posts.

The officials added SAFRON has asked the FATA Secretariat to provide insight on how to upgrade teachers. Moreover, the view of the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) education department will also be sought on the matter.
