SIALKOT: A man abducted his four minor children from his wife’s parents house in Mubarak Pura on Saturday night.

According to police officials, Italian national Azam kidnapped his children from his wife Naila’s parent’s house after she left him in Italy and brought her children with her back to Pakistan. The high court ordered the Sialkot district police officer (DPO) Muhammad Nadeem to recover the children within fifteen days.

Durga Wali resident Azam married Mubarak Pura resident Naila in 2005 and took her to Italy where she gave birth to four children. During that time Azam began seeing another woman and brought her home and introduced her to Naila as his second wife. The couple began to have regular fights and Naila decided to separate from Azam. “I decided that I could not tolerate another woman in the house raising my children and he was adamant that it was his right to marry a second time,” she told police officials. “I began to save money for the flight home and after a few months I simply left without telling him because I knew he would not have let me go. He had already threatened to kill me if I took my children,” she said.

Naila told the police that she was tortured for several months after which she sent a message to her father through a relative. Her father, Waris, approached the courts and a bailiff was sent to recover Naila and her children.

Azam demanded that Naila hand over the children to him but the sessions court rejected his demands last month. Following the rejection of his appeal Azam planned to abduct his children from home.

On November 8, Azam and four of his armed friends broke into Naila’s parents house and abducted 5-year-old Taha, 4-year-old Talha, 2-and-a-half-year-old Hussain and 8-month-old Hunain. Naila registered a case against Azam but the police were unable to locate her children as Azam was not a resident in Pakistan and was hiding out with different people.

On November 8, Naila approached the high court along with her father and lawyer but Azam and his lawyer were not present for the hearing. “We sent him repeated notices and he knew of the hearing because his lawyer was informed. He called after he had taken the children and threatened Naila to drop the case,” Naila’s lawyer Sadeeq Bajwa told reporters.

The court ordered that the children be presented before the court on November 10 and when Azam failed to appear before the court the district superintendent police (DSP) was ordered to appear in the court along with the children on November 15. Police officials have said that raids are being conducted on the houses of the accused and his relatives and several people have been arrested for questioning.

“We are trying to find the children and we have alerted airport authorities not to let Azam out of the country,” DPO Nadeem said. Police said they gave also informed the interior ministry about the case and Azam’s name has been put on the ECL. “He is still in Pakistan and will be arrested soon,” Nadeem said.

Naila’s parents said that she has been in the hospital for the past three days because she stopped eating after her children were taken. Naila has appealed to the authorities to recover her children as soon as possible.

Azam and his lawyer were unavailable for comment.
