Grateful owner praises rescue efforts

LAHORE: A sacrificial cow fell in a drain in Green Town but was safely evacuated on Sunday.

Rescue 1122 officials evacuated the cow after a one hour operation and handed it over it to its owner.

Muhammad Aslam, resident of Township, was going to the cattle market to sell the cow. The cow jumped into the drain after hearing a pressure horn which scared it.

Aslam called Rescue 1122 for help. Rescue officials arrived at the scene and started a rescue operation.

After a painstaking effort of an hour rescue workers along with the help of the locals were able to pull the animal out of the drain.

Muhammad Aslam while speaking with The Express Tribune said that he appreciated the effort of rescue workers who saved his only cow.

He said that the incident happened at around 4 pm when a rash driver honked a pressure horn.

He said that the animal panicked and started running wildly.

He said that then the cow fell into the drain.

Aslam said that initially the rescue workers tried to pull out the animal but they failed. He said, later, he and people in the vicinity gave the rescue workers a hand and succeeded in pulling out the cow.

He said that he is a very poor man and the cow was the only valuable possession he had.

He added that he had been nurturing the animal for two years and planned to sell the cow this year on the eve of Eidul Azha.

He said that for a moment he thought that he had lost every thing when the cow fell into the drain.

Rescue workers said that they care equally about the possessions of the rich and the poor.

    @Ganga das:
The point in recovering it was that the poor guy will sell it and earn some money out of it to feed his family! And that’s the most wonderful thing – Helping humanity!Recommend

Men, women, and children are expected to dress in their finest clothing to perform Eid prayer in a large congregation is an open waqf field called Eidgah or mosque. Those Muslims who can afford, i.e Malik-e-Nisaab; sacrifice their best domestic animals (usually a cow, but can also be a camel, goat, sheep or ram depending on the region) as a symbol of Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice his only son. The sacrificed animals, called Uḍhiyyah (Arabic: أضحية‎, also known by its Persian term, “al-Qurbāni”), have to meet certain age and quality standards or else the animal is considered an unacceptable sacrifice.

The regular charitable practices of the Muslim community are demonstrated during Eid al-Adha by concerted efforts to see that no impoverished person is left without an opportunity to partake in the sacrificial meal during these days.

During Eid al-Adha, distributing meat amongst the people, chanting the Takbir out loud before the Eid prayer on the first day and after prayers throughout the three days of Eid, are considered essential parts of this important Islamic festival. In some countries, families that do not own livestock can make a contribution to a charity that will provide meat to those who are in need.

    hi @Pakeezah,
Then the article should have been titled as “Rescue workers help poor man” . That would have been apropos. After all the poor creature is going to be killed in the name of Id in a day or two. Now instead of saving the cow for just one day the government could have paid the poor man with some money (instead of spending it on fuel, rescuer’s salary etc..)Recommend

The animal was raised to be sold for a sacrificial slaughter but still; was it better to leave the animal suffering in the drain?
Also the slaughtered animal’s meat is supposed to be distributed among three categories, the person who is slaughtering the animal, his family and friends and the poor.
One more thing people who are minding the slaughtering of the animal either in the name of religion or just for the sake of food; have you not ever eaten the meat or if you are a vegetarian don’t any of the persons around you eaten any meat? If yes, do they eat the meat of naturally dead animals?Recommend
