LAHORE: Post Graduate Medical Institute (PGMI) and Lahore General Hospital (LGH) Principal Anjum Habib Vohra said on Sunday a subject on dengue fever prevention and treatment should be part of the syllabus for nursing courses.

He was speaking following a declamation on dengue fever.

Staff nurses and nursing students attended the declamation. LGH Medical Superintendent (MS) Pervez Imtiaz, emergency director Munawar Ali and Additional MS Junaid Mirza were also present.

Vohra said the subject could help provide proper guidance and awareness about the virus. “Dengue and polio have emerged as major public health challenges that must be overcome through collective efforts by doctors, nurses and paramedics.”

The participants talked about symptoms, preventive measures and treatment of dengue patients. They stressed the need for maintaining cleanliness and hygiene.

Vohra said doctors, nurses and paramedics were prepared to defeat dengue.

He said all available resources at the LGH, the PGMI and Ameeruddin Medical College were being used for the treatment of dengue fever patients. He said dengue should be taken as a social problem. Every member of society must play their role to eliminate the menace, he said.

Vohra said doctors from several hospitals were being trained at the PGMI on dengue prevention methods. He said seminars and training workshops were being conducted regularly to educate citizens about the virus.

He later distributed certificates among the participants of the event.
