Streak of violence: Roadside blast kills one in South Waziristan

Land row claims life in neighbouring DI Khan.

DI KHAN: An improvised explosive device (IED) planted along a roadside in Landi Noor village of Wana, South Waziristan went off on Friday morning, killing one person and injuring another, an official of the political administration told The Express Tribune.

The victims were in a vehicle which was on its way to Shakai Bazaar when the blast occurred. The deceased was identified as Baa Khan while the injured was identified as Mashal Khan, who was rushed to Agency Headquarters Hospital for treatment. Both the civilians belonged to the Wazir tribe.

Land dispute

An armed clash between two rival groups over a land row in Kari Malang village of DI Khan left one dead and another injured, said an official at Yarak police station. According to the official, the two groups opened fire at each other when one was irrigating crops.



Inamullah, 25, died on the spot as a result while 18-year-old Mohiuddin was injured. Mohiuddin was rushed to District Headquarters and Teaching Hospital where his condition was said to be stable. Both groups lodged separate cases against each other at the police station, the official added.

Meanwhile, a day-long polio campaign was carried out in DI Khan. Special security arrangements were made and the polio teams were escorted by policemen. No untoward incidents were reported during the drive.
