Borrowing: PIA inducts two wet leased jets

PIA will receive two other aircraft on dry lease in next few weeks.

KARACHI: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) on Wednesday said that it has inducted two Boeing 737-800 aircraft on wet lease in its fleet, helping it to increase the number of operational jets to around 30. The airplanes have been leased from Turkey’s Corondon Airlines. But the aircraft on wet lease are hired for just few months as the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) discourages their use on permanent basis. Wet leased aircraft are flown and served by the crew of the airline, which owns the plane. PIA is already using another jet on wet lease. A spokesman for the airline said that PIA will receive two other aircraft on dry lease in next few weeks.

Given PIA's record of aircraft at rates far above the market, the whole contractual agreement should be made public.
