ISLAMABAD: The International Association of Historians of Asia (IAHA) has elected Dr Sajid Mahmood Awan, officer in charge of the National Institute of Historical and Cultural Research (NIHCR), Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad, as its president for a two-year term. The historian, researchers, scholars and academia attending the conference have termed it a landmark victory for Pakistan, Quaid-e-Azam University and the NIHCR as this is for the first time that any one from Pakistan has won the contest for the IAHA presidentship. In this way, Pakistan has been elected to host the next IAHA conference in 2016. During this tenure, the IAHA Secretariat will also be shifted to Pakistan under the presidency of Dr Awan in the NIHCR.
