LAHORE:

The family of a newborn, who went missing from Sir Ganga Ram Hospital four days ago, staged a demonstration in front of the hospital on Monday. Protesters smashed the windows of a police van, burned tyres and chanted slogans against the police and hospital administration. Civil Lines police said Sumera Bibi’s infant son was taken away by an unidentified woman on September 24. The police registered a case but could not recover the child.

On Monday evening, the protesters blocked roads leading to the hospital for at least two hours and accused the hospital administration of being complicit in the kidnap. “How is it possible for an unrelated woman to just pick up a child from the gynaecology ward,” one of the protesters said.

Senior police officials later arrived at the scene and assured the family that they were doing their best to recover the child and apprehend the woman who had taken it away.
