Reunited: Abducted girl recovered eight years later

Police nabbed the culprit after making a few inquiries in Chak 607-GB.

City Police Officer (CPO) Sohail Tajik said on Saturday that Tandlianwala police had recovered a girl abducted eight years ago.

Tajik said in 2006 Maryam Bibi, a resident of Tandlianwala, had gone to a bazaar with her daughters, Abida and Amina. He said a woman had snatched Amina from her elder sister while their mother was shopping.  Tajik said several people had looked for Amina but in vain. Tajik said Bibi had started frequenting sufi shrines and mausoleums for solace. He said she was visiting a pir in Chak 607-GB to pray for her daughter’s recovery when she noticed a girl there who bore a striking resemblance to her and Abida. She spoke to the woman accompanying the child but she gave her a slip.  He said she had registered a complaint at Tandlianwala police station after the incident. Tajik said the police had arrested the women after making a few inquiries in Chak 607-GB. He said the woman, a resident of Bahlak area, had confessed to abducting the child. He said she had told police that she had had no offspring. Tajik said police had handed Amina over to her family. The CPO announced cash prizes for Tandlianwala police and issued them letters of appreciation.

Bibi said she was delighted to have found her daughter and grateful to the police.
