LAHORE:

Justice Iftikhar Hussain Shah of Lahore High Court on Tuesday dismissed a contempt petition filed regarding the detention of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) activists.

Zubair Khan Niazi, the petitioner, in his petition, told the Lahore High Court that Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf workers had been detained in various police stations in the city despite the court’s orders.

The petitioner had requested the court to initiate contempt proceedings against the police officials he had nominated in the petition.

In a written reply to the court Inspector General (IGP) Mushtaq Sukhera said police had not arrested any political activist illegally. Sukhera said some arrests had been made on the direction of the district coordination officer under the Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance.  Justice Shah expressed satisfaction with the IGP’s reply and dismissed the petition.
