SUKKUR:

The bodies of two men found in the Ghotki feeder on Sunday were buried at the Lal Shah graveyard in Mirpur Mathelo and Ghotki on Tuesday after no one came to claim the bodies.

According to sources, their bodies had torture marks on them. They also believe that three bodies were washed into Sindh via the floodwater from Punjab. While two of the bodies were taken out of the water, one is still missing.

What happened

On Sunday, residents of the Chak Shahbazpur area spotted three bodies in the feeder. They reported it to the authorities immediately.

The residents managed to drag one body out of the feeder before the police arrived. Sources claimed that the incharge of the Chak Shahbazpur police checkpost reached two hours later and asked the villagers to throw the body back into the water. They did as told by the policeman.

Two of the three bodies were later found stuck between the gates of the Raunti Bridge. The irrigation staff helped the incharge of the Raunti police checkpost to get rid of the bodies by raising the gates of the bridge so the bodies could float downstream.

One body was found near the Detho Bhayo village located within the limits of the Andal Sundrani police station. The second body was found near the Bago Deho village within the limits of the Bello Mirpir police station.

One of the bodies was taken to Civil Hospital, Mirpur Mathelo while the other was taken to the taluka hospital in Ghotki for the postmortem. Doctors at both the hospitals claimed that the bodies had torture marks on them.

The incharge responds

While talking to The Express Tribune, Chachar denied that they let the bodies pass through and claimed that he was on leave on Sunday and could not have been a part of what happened. He said that the Raunti bridge is crowded quite often with villagers and herders who bring their livestock for grazing.

“I am a human being,” he said. “How can I do something so inhumane?” He added that the allegations were baseless and incorrect. Meanwhile, the incharge of the Chak Shahbazpur police post, Aziz Malhan, was not available for comment.
