KARACHI: Pakistan-Kashmir Business Forum President Sardar Maqbool Zaman has stressed the need of setting up an export processing zone in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) to facilitate traders and boost local manufacturing, trading and export sectors.

Talking to the media on Monday, he said the law and order situation in AJK is ideal and industrialists can set up their units with peace of mind. He regretted that many Pakistani investors are shifting their capital abroad and setting up industries in Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and other countries.

Zaman urged the businessmen that instead of shifting the industry to Bangladesh and other such destinations abroad, they should invest in AJK.

He added that crime is negligible in AJK and cases of kidnapping for ransom are almost non-existent. “This is why many industrialists have already started setting up their industries over here instead of going to Bangladesh,” he said.

“The government is also offering attractive incentives like tax holiday. The industries of assembling motorcycles, foam making, plastic goods and matchboxes can be run in AJK with great profitability.”

Zaman added that setting up an export processing zone in the area can address a lot of issues facing the industrialists, helping the production process and boosting exports massively.

With the exchange of delegations of traders between Pakistan and AJK, it would pave way for many opportunities of investments, he added.
