LAHORE:

Ambassador of France Philippe Thiebaud met Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Monday and expressed sorrow over the loss of life and the damage caused by the floods in the province.

The chief minister said France was an important country of the European Union and Pakistan wanted to maintain good relations with the country.

He said there was a need to promote trade and enhance economic ties between the two countries.  Sharif said exchange of delegations between Pakistan and France could help increase bilateral trade.  He said export of Pakistani textile products to the European Union was increasing due to free access to the open market after GSP Plus status was granted to Pakistan. He said French companies could benefit from investment opportunities in Pakistan.  He said some French companies were working in water supply and infrastructure sectors.
