Devolving control: Muqam reiterates support for Hazara province

Questions PTI’s failure to keep a single election campaign promise to its electorate.

MANSEHRA: Adviser to the PM Amir Muqam said he has always thrown his weight behind those struggling for new provinces and will support the demand of new administrative units, including Hazara province. He said this while speaking to the media at Federal Minister Sardar Muhammad Yousuf’s residence, where he had come to commiserate the death of Yousuf’s brother.

Muqam was amongst those leaders of his former party, Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid, who publicly supported turning Hazara Division into a province. In answer to a question, he reiterated his previous stance, adding he would never back off from his position.

Islamabad sit-ins

Muqam said dispersing the PAT, PTI protesters was not a tall order for the government but, he added, “We are not in favour of violence which factually was the key objection of the protesting parties.”

“The government has been tolerant and will not let protesting parties riot on the streets of Islamabad,” he said. “The sit-in has had more economic implications on the country than endangering Mian Nawaz Sharif’s government.”

Questioning Imran Khan’s statement about building 350 new small dams in the K-P, Muqam said PTI has failed to even make feasibility plans for a single dam.

“They could not even construct a single well in the past 14 months; how can they fool the people in the name of new dams?” he questioned.

The adviser to the PM claimed PTI failed to fulfil promises made to its own electorate; whether it is the holding of LG polls within 90 days, bringing down the cost of electricity to Rs2 per unit, flour at Rs10 per kg or ghee at Rs 40 per kg, the introduction of a uniform education system or free medicines at government hospitals.

Muqam added the army has successfully cleared 95% of the areas previously held by extremists and the process of IDP repatriation will begin very soon.

A Hazara province should only be made if Kp, Fata, northern Balochistan, Mianwali and Attock are merged into one province.
