KARACHI:

Aiming for a bigger crowd than the one that gathered at the Quaid's Mausoleum on December 25, 2011, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is all set for its Sunday sit-in at the same location.

Party chief Imran Khan is coming to Karachi from his 'Azadi March' sit-in in Islamabad. After addressing the activists, he will fly back to Islamabad. PTI media coordinator Jamal Shahid told The Express Tribune that they were planning for a bigger and better event. "This will definitely be huge," he said. "We are expecting around 100,000 people to be a part of this sit-in."

A day ahead of the Sunday sit-in, the party organised a car rally from Nipa to the Quaid's Mausoleum on Saturday evening. Meanwhile, the party's routine sit-in at Sea View was attended by leaders, Asad Omar and Arif Alvi, on Saturday night.

PTI social media head Imran Ghazali told The Express Tribune that they will be streaming the entire event live on their website on Sunday.

Beefing up security

The police have finalised their security plan to ensure the protection of the activists participating in the Sunday sit-in, after the Sindh government allowed the PTI to hold its public gathering.

The provincial administration had also barred the police from arresting any activist. It also directed the police to ensure the security of the participants. According to Karachi police chief Ghulam Qadir Thebo, 19,000 security personnel will be deployed in the metropolis, while 2,000 policemen will be deputed at the venue.

“All zones of the police department will be active in ensuring the security of the rally and the PTI leaders in their respective jurisdictions,” said Thebo, adding that they have requested for 1,000 extra contingents of police from the Sindh IG. Special branch police and bomb disposal squad teams will also be on alert as part of the security arrangements.

I personally would not welcome Imran Khan in Karachi until he apologises to Karachiites for all the actions of Taliban's who have massacred people of Abbas Town. PTI was supported by Taliban during the last election. With their hypocritical ideology the PTI stages dharma against present government over the killings of innocent people in Model Town Lahore but not a word against the TTP actions in Karachi.
