Rescue-1122 helped 85,442 flood-hit people

It said 5,701 rescuers and 315 rescue boats had been deployed in the calamity-stricken areas.

Rescue-1122 has rescued 85,442 people in 26 flood-hit districts of the province, according to a briefing given to Punjab Emergency Service Director General (DG) Rizwan Naseer on Friday.


According to the Rescue-1122 Provincial Monitoring Cell, a flood contingency plan had been prepared in consultation with districts governments before the floods. It said 5,701 rescuers and 315 rescue boats had been deployed in the calamity-stricken areas.

It said Rescue-1122 evacuated 1,749 flood-affected people from Narowal; 96 from Rawalpindi; 1,939 from Sialkot; 1,461 from Sheikhupura; 899 from Gujranwala; 185 from Gujrat; 5,205 from Hafizabad; 403 from Jhelum; 5,721 from Mandi Bahauddin; 3,557 from Khanewal; 2,521 from Chiniot; 284 from Sargodha; 466 from Khushab; 757 from Nankana Sahib; 377 from Toba Tek Singh; 221 from Okara; 146 from Sahiwal; seven from Chakwal; 201 from Lahore; two from Vehari; 1,740 from Rajanpur; 333 from Rahim Yar Khan; 279 from Bahawalpur; 30,046 from Jhang; 15,636 from Multan and 10,534 from Muzaffargarh.

The DG was informed that vulnerable areas in the flood-hit districts had already been identified.

He was told that workload on Rescue-1122 had doubled as the rescuers not only had to respond to routine emergencies but they had to remain alert in flood-hit areas. Naseer praised the Rescue-1122 staff for safely evacuating flood victims.
