Bank heist: Constable killed trying to foil robbery

The robbers collected cash worth Rs1.3 million from two counters of the bank

A police constable was killed on Friday as he tried to foil a robbery taking place in the Habib Bank branch situated inside the Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences (LUMHS), Jamshoro.


According to the police, three robbers allegedly barged into the bank and shot the head constable, Bashir Qureshi, when he tried to stop them. He died on the spot. The robbers collected cash worth Rs1.3 million from two counters of the bank.


One of the suspects grabbed the automatic rifle of the deceased policeman and fired shots outside the bank to disperse the police and security guards deputed at the administration block. Two of the robbers engaged in an exchange of fire with the police while the third one snatched a motorcycle from a passerby and fled.


The suspects were shot as they tried to run away and were arrested. They were identified as Yasir Brohi and Rashid Ali Buledi. Police officials recovered the stolen cash from them, which was then returned to the bank. Three separate FIRs of bank robbery, policeman’s murder and firing on police have been registered at the Jamshoro police station.
