Top govt cadres have been blamed for the killing of two followers of Qadri

ISLAMABAD: The Secretariat police registered a double-murder case against the prime minister, Punjab chief minister and several top ranking police and administration officials on the complaint of a Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) official.

The complainant – PAT Central Deputy Secretary Information Umar Riaz Abbasi – has nominated Nawaz Sharif, Shahbaz Sharif, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique and several top officials, including IGP Islamabad Khalid Khattak, IGP Punjab Mushtaq Sukhera, DC Islamabad Mujahid Sherdil, the SSP (Operations) Islamabad and SHO Secretariat police station.

In the FIR, Abbasi blamed the nominated officials for the killing of two PAT workers – Rafiullah, 25, and Gulfam Adil, 30 – in clashes with the law enforcers in the Red Zone on August 30. He alleged that the interior minister had given orders to ‘men in police uniforms’ to open ‘straight fire’ on PAT leader Dr Tahirul Qadri, his party colleagues and supporters when he was visiting the site.

“Following the orders, police opened fire on unarmed people resulting in the killing of two men and leaving over 1,000 injured,” Abbasi stated.

“Dr Qadri’s health deteriorated rapidly after ‘dated shells’ were fired [by the law enforcers],” the FIR added.

The case was registered under Sections 302, 324, 148, 149 and 109 of the Pakistan Penal Code and Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997.
