Law and order: Robbers killed in shoot out identified

The spokesman said police shot and killed two of them in retaliatory fire.

FAISALABAD: Two outlaws killed in a shootout with Madina Town police near Gattwala on Tuesday were identified on Wednesday. A police spokesman said a police team comprising constables Waris Ali and Ghulam Mustafa stopped three men at a picket at Gaitanwala Park and asked to search them. He said the men shot at the policemen, seriously injuring Ali, who later died. Mustafa fled from the spot and called for back up. On receiving information, a heavy police contingent headed by Madina Town SP Nasir Ahmad Sial, Peoples Colony DSP Abid Zafar, Madina Town SHO Farrukh Waheed reached the scene and encircled the outlaws. They asked them to surrender but they shot again at the police team and hid near a park near the canal. The spokesman said police shot and killed two of them in retaliatory fire. The third died on the way to the hospital. He said two unlicensed pistols and a Kalashnikov were also seized. Police said two of them had been identified: Shehbaz alias Sajo, a resident of Chak Jhumra and Abid, son of Muhammad Iqbal resident of Vehari. They said efforts were being made to indentify the third man. They said the men were members of a robbery gang run by a proclaimed offender Abdul Ghaffar alias Ghaffari Langra who was also later arrested.
