13 new polio cases confirmed across Pakistan

Total number of reported polio cases in the country have reached 158.

Thirteen new wild type-1 polio cases were confirmed across Pakistan on Tuesday, taking the national tally of polio cases to 158.

According to data released by National Institute of Health (NIH) late on Tuesday, seven out of thirteen new cases have emerged from Federally Administered Tribal Area (FATA) while three were reported from Khyber-Pakhtunkhawa (K-P). The remaining three cases were reported from Sindh, Punjab and Blaochistan respectively.

After Tuesday’s confirmation, the total number of polio cases from FATA alone has reached 113 while cases from K-P have risen to 27. According to NIH data cases from Sindh, Punjab and Balochistan have reached 12, two and three respectively.

Among the cases reported on Tuesday, four children diagnosed with polio had perviously received multiple doses of the vaccine.

In the case of 18 month-old Kubra d/o Ghulam Yasin, from tehsil Darya Khan, district Bhakkar, more than seven doses had been administered. Similarly, in the lone case from Gadap Town area of Karachi, 22 month-old Rafia d/o Ghulam Ishaque had received five doses of oral vaccine.

Polio cases confirmed by NIH today:

1. Shaqiba d/o Rangeen, 12 M female child, area Milward, village Ali Khel Sher Kali, tehsil Bara, Khyber agency.

2. Mustafa s/o Saif Ullah, 30 M male child, area Milward, village Mada Khel Miran Talab, tehsil Bara, Khyber agency.

3. Riaz s/o Ismail, 29 M male child, area Sra Cheena, village Drangoona Zawa, tehsil Bara, Khyber agency.

4. Akhtar Bilal s/o Hazrat Ullah, 12 M male child, area and village Asad Khel, tehsil Razmak, NWA.

5. Abdul Basir s/o Akhtar Jan, 30 M male child, area and village Shoi Khel, tehsil Razmak, NWA.

6. Hameed Ullah s/o Taveez Khan, 10 M male child, area Azam Warsak, village Dana Paloosha, tehsil Wana, SWA.

7. Malalai d/o Sher Badshah, 9 M female child, area and village Shin Warsak, tehsil Wana, SWA.

8. Umia d/o Tajar Khan, 24 M female child, UC Chingali, village Dandikot, tehsil Totali, district Bunair. Four SIAs doses.

9. Saira d/o Noor Wali Khan,18 M female child, UC Chingali, village Dandikot, tehsil Totali, district Bunair. Four SIAs doses.

10. Sabeela d/o Tariq, 13 M female child, UC Jattatar, village Karyana Kalu Parrangi, tehsil and district Tank. Zero dose

11. Kubra d/o Ghulam Yasin, 18 M female child, UC Khawar Kalan, village Majoka, tehsil Darya Khan, district Bhakkar. 7+ SIAs doses.

12. Muzammil s/o Abdul Manan, 8 M male child, UC Mehmood Abad-1, village Guldar Bagheecha Haji Mangal Khan Mohallah, tehsil Chaman, district Killa Abdullah. Zero dose.

13. Rafia d/o Ghulam Ishaque, 22 M female child, Mir Muhammad Goth, Sultan Abad, Mangopir, UC-8, Gadap Town, Karachi. Five SIAs doses.

This is very alarming. All are children in the age groups of 8 months and 30 months. Also that four have contacted polio even after receiving multiple doses of vaccine will erode the confidence of parents and discourage them from vaccinating their children.

Well,Dharnas are important for IK/PTI than to control polio.
