LAHORE:

Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) president Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and PML-Q Punjab president Chaudhry Parvez Elahi on Saturday condemned arrest of political workers in Lahore.

They told the media such steps were illegal. They said the government had resorted to violence as it was scared of the sit-ins in the capital. This would aggravate the situation, they said.

They demanded that the government immediately release the detained political workers.

They said on one hand the government said it wanted negotiations; on the other it had been arresting workers of the political parties sponsoring the sit-ins.

They said after the June 17 bloodshed in Model Town in Lahore the government had now resorted to violence in Islamabad.
