Bad cops: 3 policemen shoot 5 people over tikkas

The policemen fled by firing in the air, threatening people with dire consequences if they followed them.

Peoples Colony police on Saturday lodged a case against three policemen for shooting and injuring five people at a restaurant.


Abdur Razzaq, an eyewitness, said three policemen entered a restaurant at Abbas Chowk and ordered a plate of tikkas.

He said when the policemen were seated, they took out liquor bottles and began to drink.

He said they then ate tikkas and walked out of the shop. Razzaq said Nadeem Ahmad, the restaurant owner, followed them and told them that they had forgotten to play.

He said the policemen got angry and began abusing Ahmad. He said when Ahmad insisted on getting the payment, one of them took out a gun and shot him several times.

He said Ahmad, waiters Haleem Ali and Azeem Akhtar and two customers were injured.

On hearing the commotion, some people gathered outside the restaurant. They took the injured to a hospital where doctors said the condition of two people was critical. Muhammad Akram, a relative of Ahmad, said the policemen fled by firing in the air, threatening people with dire consequences if they followed them.

He said in their rush, the policemen forgot an empty liquor bottle and their motorbike.

He said the bottle and the motorbike were handed over to Peoples Colony police.

Peoples Colony station house officer said the police had registered a complaint and were investigating. He said the policemen involved were volunteers and two of them had been arrested.
