Islamabad drama and its actors

Letter September 14, 2014
If Nawaz Sharif heeded Zardari’s advice — resign from his office — he would have been saved the possible ignominy.

DADU: The main characters in the whole drama being played out in the federal capital — Imran Khan and Tahirul Qadri — are playing a bad innings. At times the PAT leader roared like a lion and ordered his followers to destroy everything. But when he was about to face reality he wept like a child and spoke and gestured like a mentally challenged person. Qadri continued to compare his protest with great revolutions of the world and compared his followers with those of revolutionary figures from history.

As for Imran Khan, he seems to focus only on the rigged election and people’s problems figure nowhere on his agenda. Also, he profusely uses the first person ‘I’ rather than ‘we’. As for the prime minister, he remained more or less dormant all the time until things turned ugly.

If Nawaz Sharif had acted on Zardari’s advice — that he resign from his office — he would have been saved the possible ignominy and the country from the huge economic loss the dharnas have caused.
