NA-149: LHC declines appointing judicial officers as ROs for by-polls

The seat fell vacant after PTI President Javed Hashmi resigned from Parliament

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday declined a request to appoint judicial officials as returning officers for by-elections in NA-149 Multan, Express News reported.

In the wake of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) President Javed Hashmi’s resignation from Parliament, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) will hold by-polls for the seat. The LHC today wrote a letter to the ECP and informed the commission of its decision.

Javed Hashmi had resigned from Parliament on September 3.

Speaking at a joint session of Parliament, Hashmi said he had not given his resignation ‘willingly’, but did so in order to follow PTI's decision to quit the National Assembly.

All the others who have resigned for NA seats should demand their resignations accepted and seats are due for by polls. What Hashmi said he would do it and he did. The others only talk of resignations but they are not serious and still pending depending upon whether the politicians meant it or not. Hashmi may or may not contest from that seat but he has won it several times and he can win it on any party's ticket or even independent. In politics there are no absolutes but compromises and Hashmi did not go for the extreme demands.

Saima | 9 years ago | Reply There has not been a single verdict by Lahore High Court against Shareef Bradaraan or their family in the last 30 years, does it make them angels? Similarly they manipulated long march and pitched Cheap Justice Chaudhry against PPP premier. It is obvious that LHC would also defend this family who has surprisingly ruled Punjab for more than 30 years….. Whereas Javed Hashmi is concerned, he did a political suicide attack in a lowest manner possible in the history of world politics.
