CHARSADDA: The police on Wednesday rescued a 16-year-old girl from being given into swara in Utmanzai, Charsadda and arrested members of the jirga which took the decision. According to Inspector Ijaz Khan of the Charsadda police station, five days ago Kamil allegedly abducted Nazia on the pretext of marrying her and kept her hidden in a friend’s house. Khan added that Nazia’s family found her and then a jirga was called to settle the dispute. The jirga came to the decision that Kamil’s teenaged sister would be given in swara to Nazia’s 11-year-old brother, said Khan. He further said that the jirga decided Kamil and Nazia would not be married till their siblings were married. However, police received a tip-off and raided the area. The jirga members were arrested and the 16-year-old was rescued.
