KARACHI: Muhammad Sajjad, one of Pakistan’s top cueists, has said that he will be participating with dedication at the NBP 39th National Snooker Championship beginning on Wednesday, despite having already qualified for the upcoming IBSF World Championship in India.
Sajjad has been rewarded for his consistent performances by the Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Association (PBSA), and the player is keen on winning the tournament in order to gain momentum before the mega event.
He crashed out in the semi-finals at the last edition of the world championship, but won the maiden IBSF World Team Championship with Muhammad Asif.
“I’m motivated to lift the national championship title because it’s important to keep up the winning momentum,” Sajjad told The Express Tribune.
“Despite my automatic qualification to the world event, I won’t be taking the national championship lightly, as it’s significant to do well against top players of the country.
“It’s an opportunity to obtain competitive match practice leading up to the event in India.”
He also added that his focus is already set on doing well in India, since their archrivals had recently won the Asian Team Championship in Karachi and winning the world title on their neighbours’ home soil would be a great revenge.
“I’m really happy that the world championship is being held in India because it provides us a chance to avenge them,” concluded Sajjad.
