MULTAN:

A 20-year-old gang rape victim died in hospital late on Sunday night. Sidra*, a resident of Shakir Town in Dera Ghazi Khan, had doused herself with kerosene oil and committed self-immolation on August 17.

On Sunday, she was pronounced dead. Mudassir, Kareem, Nazar and Omar had allegedly abducted her from her home in January and repeatedly raped her until she escaped in May. On June 18, the Drahma police had registered a case against the four on court orders. However, three of the men were declared innocent by the investigation officer Ghulam Akbar. One was sent on judicial remand. After Sidra tried to commit suicide, RPO Rehmatullah Niazi opened the case  again and sought action against policemen who neglected duty. DPO Ghulam Mubashar Maiken led the inquiry. The three suspects were rearrested. On Monday, Sidra was buried in Shakir Town.
