HANGU:

Four people were critically injured when a gas cylinder exploded in a small cafe in Hangu on Thursday.

According to Hangu DSP Falak Nawaz Bangash, the blast occurred in a tea shop located in Fazal Shah Market.

The injured people were identified as Esa Khan, Tila Muhammad, Alla Muhammad and Momin. DSP Bangash said the four men have severe burn injuries and were rushed to District Headquarters Hospital Hangu where they were said to be critical. Doctors later referred them to Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar.

Protests continue

Meanwhile, the Hangu chapter of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) held a protest against the federal government on Thursday and condemned the police’s baton charging of PTI protesters in Islamabad.

Hundreds of PTI activists participated in the rally which was taken out in Thal tehsil of the district.

Addressing the protesters, PTI district president Noor Awaz said the party had begun a peaceful agitation against the feudal system in place in the country but the federal government resorted to using force against them.

“We will not budge from our demands and the protest will only end once the prime minister resigns,” said Awaz.

Violent clashes broke out between police and activists of PTI and Pakistan Awami Tehreek on August 30 when the demonstrators attempted to storm the Red Zone in Islamabad. Three people died in the clashes and more than 400 sustained injuries.

Workers of PTI from across Pakistan have been protesting against the assault since then.

Differences sorted out

Differences which had developed between local journalists and PTI leaders of Hangu and Orakzai were sorted out on Thursday and both sides agreed to resolve their issues amicably.

A joint meeting was held between Hangu Union of Journalists President Israr Ahmad Orakzai and PTI Hangu President Noor Awaz. The meeting was attended by journalists from the Hangu Press Club and PTI workers.

A news report published by local journalists after an interview with a PTI leader had led to agitation between activists and journalists a few days ago.

In the meeting, both sides agreed to redress each other’s concerns and complaints.

PTI leaders asked media personnel not to publish or broadcast statements made by individual leaders until they are verified from the senior leadership of the party and journalists agreed to refrain from mudslinging.
