Rains and roads: Six killed in AJK

The police said that the driver lost the control of the van while negotiating the sharp curve.

At least six people were killed and one injured in different incidents across Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) on Monday.


According to the police, a pickup van heading to Palandri from Rawalakot fell in a deep ravine near Afsar Market on Ghazi-e-Milat Road, Rawalakot, killing four people on the spot, while one passenger was injured.

The police said that the driver lost the control of the van while negotiating the sharp curve.

The deceased were identified as Nadeem Khan, Zohaib, Tanveer and Inayat. The injured was shifted to Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayad Al-Nahyan Hospital Rawalakot where doctors said he is in stable condition.

In another incident, a woman was killed after being struck by lightning near Abbaspur in Rawalakot on Monday.

According to the police, 25-year-old Irum Kausar of Jangora Abbaspur village was fetching water from the nearby spring when she was  struck by lightning. Kausar was killed on the spot as a result.

Later the deceased was laid to rest in her ancestral graveyard.

In another incident, seventh grader Hashir Abbasi was killed when he was swept by the currents of a flooded stream near Haal Dhirkot following heavy rains in Dhirkot tehsil.
