KARACHI:

The water crisis in Korangi, Defence Housing Authority and its adjoining areas has taken a turn for the worse as illegal hydrants that had been shut down earlier, have resumed operations.

“The hydrants were closed down on the orders of former local government minister Owais Muzaffar,” said an official of the Karachi Water and Sewage Board. “Now, however, the KWSB officials have allowed them to resume their illegal businesses.”

He added that the former local bodies minister had conducted a grand operation in Korangi and closed down all illegal hydrants, including the Korangi Chakra hydrants, Gharib Nawaz hydrants, Juma hydrants, Hanif hydrants and Shoaib hydrant. The senior officials of the KWSB have let them open their illegal businesses again, resulting in an artificial water crisis in the city. “It is a brutal act on the part of the KWSB officials who allow these hydrants to function 24 hours a day,” he said, adding that the people of Defense and other other areas were being compelled to buy water at exorbitant prices.
