Without documents: Two Chinese nationals arrested in Jamrud

The foreigners were later handed over to special branch for further investigation.

Two Chinese citizens were arrested at Takhta Baig check post in Jamrud, Khyber Agency on Monday for travelling without requisite documents. The foreigners were en route to Afghanistan when they were detained.


Political Tehsildar Irshad Khan said khasadar personnel at the check post signaled a taxi to pull over at around noon. He added the two Chinese nationals were identified as Chong Chang and Alfa.

Khan said khasadar personnel asked the foreigners for their travel documents but they were not carrying any with them. The travellers were then arrested and handed over to special branch for further investigation.

Last week, a Danish couple was arrested at Daraban police check post, DI Khan for travelling without the relevant documents, but was later released.

According to an official of the DI Khan police, Jakeb and his wife Carolyn were heading to Zhob district of Balochistan from DI Khan when police held them at the check post which is located at the border between Balochistan and DI Khan.

The official added that the couple was shifted to the police station but was later released on directives from senior officials.

In May, a Chinese tourist identified as Hong Xu Dong was kidnapped near the same area while he was on a cycling tour of the country. Dong was abducted on May 19 around 2pm while cycling, 65 kilometres from DI Khan.
