Islamia university vc: Prof Khan returns home after 4-year in captivity

TTP claim responsibility for kidnapping, demand Rs500 million in ransom

The vice chancellor of Islamia College University, Professor Ajmal Khan, who was held captive by militants since September, 2010, has returned safely to his home in Peshawar after security forces conducted a successful operation in North Waziristan for his release.


An official of security forces told The Express Tribune on Thursday that Prof Khan was recovered safely during the operation and has been handed over to his family, he was in good shape. “He was recovered from North Waziristan where an operation is going on and has joined his family,” said the official.


It is worth mentioning here that Prof Khan was kidnapped on September 8, 2010, from Peshawar. He was on his way to Islamia College University. Prof Khan is also the cousin of ANP leader Asfandyar Wali Khan. TTP had claimed responsibility for the kidnapping and demanded Rs500 million in ransom, in addition to the release of their dozens of most wanted comrades held in various jails of the province.
