LAHORE:

An additional district and sessions judge issued a show cause notice to the Kot Lakhpat station house officer on Wednesday for not producing the prosecution witnesses in spy convict Sarabjeet Singh’s murder trial.

The judge directed the legal affairs deputy superintendent and station house officer to appear in person to explain why the witnesses had not been produced before the court. Amir Sarfaraz and Mudassar Muneer are accused of attacking Manjeet Singh alias Sarabjeet Singh with bricks on April 26, 2013. Singh was badly injured and later died in a hospital.

Kot Lakhpat police registered an FIR under Sections 324, 353 and 186 of the Pakistan Penal Code (murder attempt, assault, obstruction of discharge of official duties). Section 302 (murder) was added to the FIR later.
