Eradicating polio: ‘Beef up security for anti-polio workers’

The security measures for the three-day anti-polio campaign were discussed at a meeting held at the Central Police Office on Wednesday.


The campaign is set to start on September 1. A delegation comprising the members of United Nations Department for Safety and Security (UNDSS) and World Health Organization (WHO) called on Karachi AIG Ghulam Qadir Thebo. The delegation included Amado Caro of UNDSS, team leader Sualeh Tamash and WHO security officer Mannas Baivatu.


According to a press release, the meeting was attended by zonal DIGs, district SSPs of Karachi and other senior police officers. Thebo directed the officers to maintain contact with the health department on zonal level, so that the security of staffs deputed on the anti-polio campaign could be ensured. He ordered them to depute additional contingents for the security of anti-polio workers.


Moreover, Thebo instructed the deputation of police commandos in the West zone, keeping in view the crime analysis of different police stations of district East, West and South zones.
