Caught red-handed: Police nab suspect responsible for attack on law enforcers

Nine other suspects were arrested in separate raids.

KARACHI: A suspect was arrested after an exchange of fire with the police as he was trying to flee after attacking a police mobile in Nazimabad. Meanwhile, nine other suspects, including alleged extortionists and criminals affiliated with a political party, were arrested by the police in separate raids.

The encounter occurred on Tuesday night when police personnel of Rizvia police station were conducting routine snap checking in Nazimabad No. 1.

Police officials said that they had signaled the two young motorcyclists to stop, but the latter opened fire at them in an attempt to escape. Luckily, no police official was hurt in the attack.

SHO Malik Mazhar said that one of the suspects was injured in retaliatory fire by the police. The other suspect, meanwhile, managed to escape under the cover of gunfire. The accused was identified as Habibullah, son of Buland Khan. The officer said that the accused was wanted to the police in several cases of crime.

Separately, Special Investigation Unit police claim to have arrested two suspects, allegedly involved in various cases of extortion, during a targeted raid in Manghopir. The suspects were identified as Abdul Khaliq and Syed Imran Ali. SIU officials said that several complaints were registered against them in various police stations.

Meanwhile, at least seven suspects were arrested by the Rangers in targeted raids in Muhammad Nagar, FC Area, Kala Pull and Lyari.
