MURREE:

Four members of a family were killed and seven others injured when a van fell into a deep ravine near Murree on Tuesday, police and rescue officials said.

According to the police, a Suzuki Bolan van onboard 11 passengers were heading Rawalpindi. The family hailing from Rawalpindi’s Dhok Kala Khan had gone to the hilly station to attend a marriage ceremony.

When the vehicle reached near Maloot village, the driver lost control over the steering apparently because of speeding while negotiating a sharp turn and fell into a 100 feet (30.4 meter) deep ravine.

As a result Muddasir Akhtar, 22, Muhammad Murtaza, 26, Mehnaz Bibi, 24, and Hunaifa, 7, belonging to Murree died on the spot and seven sustained injuries.

The police said four of the injured were shifted to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH), Murree, and three to District Headquarter Hospital (DHQ), Rawalpindi.

Murree SHO Chaudhry Safdar said that the accident occurred due to speeding and negligence of the driver who also lost his life.
