I’m not happy with Aata Majhi Satakli: Honey

MUMBAI: Rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh, who rustled up hit number Aata Majhi Satakli for box-office success Singham Returns in merely 30 minutes, said quick work means “compromising on quality” and that he now wishes to focus on making durable compositions.

“The song was composed in half an hour and I am not happy with the way it was done,” he said. “You end up compromising on quality when you work this way,” said Honey about the track that became an instant chartbuster, garnering millions of hits.

“I couldn’t say no to the track although I had no time for it. But for some reason, producers and heroes in Bollywood feel I can deliver a track at the shortest notice. ‘Kuch bhi kar do, kuch bhi nikaal lo,’ I am told,” he said. “I flew back to Mumbai for a day to do the video with Ajay (Devgn), Kareena (Kapoor Khan) and the children and flew back to London within a day. This is not the way to do durable work,” he commented.

Honey shared that Shahrukh Khan and Akshay Kumar gave him ample time to create Lungi Dance for Chennai Express and Party All Night for Boss respectively. He is flattered by the demand for his work in Bollywood, but not at the cost of quality.

“I need time. Please don’t rush me. Please don’t tell me to deliver a song in hours. And please don’t say, ‘Kuch bhi chalega’. That’s an encouragement for compromise and mediocrity,” he said. Hear, hear, Honey. Hear, hear!
