Pervaiz Elahi insists there can be no dialogue until PM, CM step down

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and senior party leader Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi held a meeting with Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) chairman Dr Tahirul Qadri.

Both leaders discussed the issues raised during their meeting with Zardari and the PAT chief briefed them about his recent talks with Federal Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique.

Addressing the media after the meeting, Pervaiz Elahi insisted there can be no dialogue or negotiation until Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Chief Minister of Punjab Shahbaz Sharif resign. Furthermore, he said that since the FIR for the Model Town incident had already been registered, it was fundamentally important that the real culprits behind the June 17 massacre should also be brought to book.

The PML-Q leader said that the PAT chief and other leaders who are participating in the Inqilab march had never refused to engage in negotiations to achieve their objectives.

Responding to a question, he said that democracy was not being derailed by the sit-ins. On the contrary, the protests in Islamabad would break the yoke of the Sharif brothers who had constantly paid lip-service to democracy but were reluctant to resign in the interest of democracy.

Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi lashed out at the Sharif brothers and accused them of undermining the Constitution and democratic institutions. He added that the Model Town tragedy was the result of the government’s undemocratic and unconstitutional practices.
