MUZAFFARABAD:

Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N)’s Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) chapter staged a rally on Saturday to express solidarity with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in his standoff with Pakistan Awami Tehreek and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.

The rally was led by the party’s chief in AJK Raja Farooq Haider. It was taken out from Upper Adda to Earthquake Memorial Bridge and eventually culminated at the Central Press Club.

Speaking at the rally, Raja Farooq Haider said the protest had been staged to uphold the writ of the state and preserve the sanctity of the Constitution.

“The people of Pakistan have given a five-year mandate to the PML-N and the PTI chief should wait until the 2018 general elections to be democratically elected,” he added.

Raja Farooq Haider further said that Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) chief Tahirul Qadri should join electoral process and not destabilise the parliamentary system by arranging sit-ins.

The people of Karachi and Kashmir have backed the prime minister. Furthermore, no individual or body can threaten the law of the land or undermine the supremacy of parliament. Haider insisted that if Imran had reservations about the outcome of last year’s election he should negotiate with the government and not use brute force.

The party’s senior vice president in AJK Chaudhry Manzoor said that the resignation of PM Nawaz is entirely out of the question at this stage.

Moreover, he accused the PAT chief of returning to Pakistan on a foreign agenda to frustrate the democratic process in the country. Chaudhry Manzoor said that PML-N would never allow anti-government forces to will derail democracy.

During the protest, PML-N workers chanted slogans in favour of PM Nawaz Sharif and democracy.  Various rallies were also taken out in other district headquarters of AJK in support of the prime minister and the constitution.
